That, were it not for Buddy Holly, she would not have had a career at all. I found that funny, as that could be said of many, many other singers and musicians. To single her out is ridiculous. She was great. She was also super nice when I met her.

First, there were singing stars long before Buddy.
Second, her career started 7 or 8 years after Buddy died, and she hit big after he was dead at least 15 years.
Third, Holly's biggest influence was in handing control of material & production to the artist. Linda didn't right that many of the sings she sang, (though she chose a lot of her material herself) & she didn't even want to control the production. So, the reference to Buddy barely applies.
I can agree with your use of "ridiculous". I'd have used nonsensical, so we're on the same page.
