I got the pleasure of covering this from '80-'82.
One of the unsung great elements of this song is the ending.
It seems to end so abruptly. I think the reason it feels that way is they do that riff five times.
The listeners hears it go past 4 and assumes it's going to on for a while, then one more time &, boom, it's over.
Clever stuff.
