The Soupy Sales Show was a comedy phenom of the '60s and '70s. Geared toward Boomer kids, he was something we seldom missed. After college he began as a DJ in Huntington WV before moving to Cincinnati to embark on a long career on television. He would do slapstick humor, song & dance, and was famous for the pie in the face gag. It seemed he did that a lot, indeed thousands of times. He also gained notorious fame for advising us kids to "tiptoe into our sleeping parents' bedrooms and remove those "funny green pieces of paper with pictures of U.S. presidents" from their pants and pocketbooks." "Put them in an envelope and mail them to me and I'll send you a postcard from Puerto Rico", on live TV.

Being the entertainer he was, he invented a dance called "The Mouse". It's actually an adaptation of an earlier dance move he called "The Soupy Shuffle" that swept the legs from side to side, with the mouse ears added.

Edited to add that his sons are accomplished musicians. Tony plays bass and Hunt Sales play the drums. They have recorded with the likes of David Bowie, Todd Rundgren, and Iggy Pop. They were both members of "Runt", one of Rundgren's early bands.

1. I'm a boomer, and saw my grandkids yesterday. No great grandkids.

I never liked Soupy Sales. He was too over the top for me. I thought The Mouse was a patronizing money grab. And, as a radio guy, I was outraged when he was given middays on WNBC, New York, in the mid 80s.
