The Go-go's release their debut LP "Beauty and the Beat" today in 1981

The Go-go’s release their debut LP “Beauty and the Beat” today in 1981 — to this day, the only #1 Billboard album by an all-female band who wrote their own material & played their own instruments.

“I remember saying, 'Wow, if we sell 150,000 copies,” said Belinda Carlisle, “that would be so cool.’”

Loved this back in the early 80s! Such a drastic change in music between 80-83ish and then 84-89. But thankfully, the crappy 84-89 (don't forget the horrific "Hair Metal" bands )period with fake instruments (synthesizers), and pathetic drum machines led to the rise of Grunge. Real musicians playing real instruments live in studio = real music.
