It's not an uncommon opinion that they were proto-prog rock.
Definitely one of the first bands that prominently featured keyboards, played by a good player. Rod was good!
She's Not There was one of the 100 songs on a Battle Of The Bands list that we chose for that event.
We finished it, and since Santana covered it, we added a Santana ending.

5. We Did

Drummer won best drummer, guitarist won best guitar, I finished 2nd on bass (I was playing bass 4 months at tge time, and the guy that won was really good). Plus first place as a band.
So we won a bunch of money for just 3 songs. If we actually got paid that much per song at our gigs, we'd have been grossing $2.4 million a year. I would have retired much earlier!
We won in 3 years in a row in different configurations & quit before we made anubomad.
The interesting piece of that contest it was "picks & sticks". Couldn't bring anything other than guitar picks & drumsticks. Had to play the instruments provided through the amps provided. Everything we owned was better than everything they had, but we made it work.
