(23,297 posts)I would listen while lying on the floor with the speakers up to my ears. I had never heard anyone sing like Steve Marriot or play like Frampton. Hooked for life.

(57,204 posts)It took Rod Stuart and Ronnie Wood to make up for the loss of Steve Marriott in Small Faces. That says something.
Best Small Faces song ...

(57,204 posts)Boz Burwell (or was it Pete Overend Watts?) came off the stage and smacked someone with his bass in the front row. Poco was headlining and their number one fan was yelling smack.
It was a great concert.

(23,297 posts)He was getting a lot of feedback. He ended up taking off his guitar and throwing it, then pushed his guitar tech as he stormed off the stage. Mick Ralphs sang Ready for Love before Hunter came back out on stage and said "I've been a naughty boy".
I saw Croce a few weeks before he was killed with Loggins and Messina.
But nothing compares to seeing U2 in an all-out brawl onstage. I was in a band that had just finished the 1980 Bob Seger tour. We had left Indiana the night Lennon was killed and drove to Pittsburgh, then Rochester, NY. We did 4 nights with U2 on their first American tour starting in Providence, RI. Two nights they opened for us, two nights we opened for them.
They had a song called "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" that they sometimes opened with and sometimes closed the show with. Bono would yell "It's 11 O'Clock!" and the drums would start pounding. One night, Bono yelled "It's 11 O'Clock!".......nothing. He turned around to see Larry Mullen on his knees adjusting his hi-hat. He knocked the Edge out of the way trying to get at Larry. He was going to kick his ass. Then there was just a lot of cursing and arms swinging as they dragged each other off the stage. Classic!

(23,297 posts)I don't really remember that show. The Boston show, the New Haven show and the Philly shows I remember parts of.

(57,204 posts)of and a lot more where its still pretty clear. I remember the first time I heard Electric Ladyland, The first time I heard ELP's Lucky Man and the pot I was smoking and which friends bedroom it was in. Remember parts of the New Years eve 1970 concert at Cleveland Public Auditorium. Do not know how I got home. Remember McKendry Springs, don't remember Cactus. Little Richard covered for Mountain because Mountain got snowed in somewhere. Little Richard played with a pick up Cleveland band backing his pianist and that was really good. Country Joe was there but I don't remember it.
Saw Jefferson Airplane in Cleveland at the Allen Theater for $2.50. Saw T Rex there in '73. $5.50, got a ticket for both shows and sat front row for the second show. Jackie Lomax opened.
