(17,400 posts)True story, my oldest sister got for Christmas, a portable record player, so me, being curious, took it apart to see how it worked, never got it back together right, my parents were not happy campers with me, but, before I dismantled her player, she used to play the grooves off of her records.

My dad eventually bought a hi fi that stood on the floor with a sliding panel on the top that exposed a well where the turntable was. You could really crank that thing up LOUD! Because of that, we had to keep it in the basement rec room. Typical basement rec room with the wood paneling on the walls.
I think my husband might have done the same as you did with your sisters record player. He was a curious mechanically oriented kid, too. lol. Ill bet your sister was plenty mad!
