The name comes from nettles, itchy plants that grew in the park. The park was actually named Valentine's Park I think.

Unless there are more than one band called "The Faces".

It's true. Story has been out there for nearly 60 years.
There's an interview with them somewhere on YouTube (I assume) where Steve tells the story himself.
Remember that, in those days in England, a "face" was a "star".
And yes, they were all 5'8" or under.
The other reason they dropped "small" from the name is that Lanes & Jones considered the "small" to have been Mariott's idea. But, faces was common parlance.
Rod Stewart & Ron Wood told that part of the story many times, as well.
Yeah, it sounds made up; but it isn't!
