Along with all the acoustic roots music, I've been totally into 80s electro-funk music lately. I grew up with this stuff on MTV, but as I got older, preferred the more lush and complex 70s funk sound. But Cameo, Gap Band, Afrika Bambaataa, early Prince - They just had a really cool futuristic aesthetic. And even though rap took over after a few years, these days, hip-hop is full of echoes of this style.
And you gotta admit, it takes some chutzpah to wear a bright red codpiece while accusing his rivals of looking like fools. And his mustache is epic.

(1,622 posts)...comprised of incredible musicians. Although funk/R&B was their strong suit, I also saw them perform hard-rock/heavy metal with the best of them on several occasions back in the day.

I've read that, along with evolving popular taste, changes in the music business made it impossible to pay for a band that big, leading to the more stripped down 80s funk.

I was surprised that there are several versions out there, especially so seeing it in an Austin Powers movie. None of them come close to Cameo.
