Boy is a great album.

Good gawd. 38 years since October was released. Been feeling old this week, so that sounds about right.

At the end of the 2 year sold out world tour in 2002 ... they come back to Dublin for a sold-out show in front of 200K+ people ...

You are in for a treat my friend ... cause this is FUCKING AMAZING.

I've literally watched this at least 50 times in my life ...

5. That's my favorite on October ...

It's a fantastic record, and important in their growth ... but I can't say I like it better than Boy. Boy is too close to me. An Cat Dubh is in my top 5 U2 all-time.

You gotta know I have both on vinyl ... though I admit I didn't buy them until after I bought War ... circa 1983. I'd heard them, but didn't own them.

In fact Under a Blood Red Sky I think was the first one I actually bought ... then I bought all the first 3.

Sorry bout your Cards, mate. Ran into buzzsaw with the Nats ... they played lights fucking OUT.

Should be a good series vs. the Astros ... I'll be rooting for the Nats cause Fuck Texas.

What can I say about the Cardinals? All year long the bats were insanely unreliable.

We got away with it against bad teams with good pitching, base running and defense.

Turns out that ain't gonna be enough against a top tier ball club. Go Blues.

I still remember the clerk @ Goody's Music putting boy on the store system and me and maybe 4 other high school kids listening to it - stunned.

I bought it as soon as I could scrounge up $3.98

In my opinion Boy October and War were the best first three records of any band in history... And I'm only willing to allow Allman Brothers and aerosmith fans to even argue with me on that.

ETA: Hahaha - I originally intended to write "go figure" but evidently my phone's auto complete remembers the Stanley Cup playoffs too well.

Bullpen wasn't quite consistent enough either.

Tellin' me you are not going to let an R.E.M. fan (Murmur, Reckoning, Fables) argue with ya about the bands first 3 albums?

I'd probably entertain arguments from fans of the following: Led Zeppelin, Talking Heads, Police, The Smiths as well, to name a few off the top of my head.

I'd probably still vote tie REM/U2, but ...

10. I was thinking REM had a case after I clicked "post reply"

But, Led Zep 3 was inconsistent and was outclassed entirely by both LZ 2 and LZ 4 (Zoso)

I was never much of a Smiths fan, and came to Talking Heads fandom later in life. So I've never really thought of their 1st 3 records in that light...

I almost put the Tragically Hip on the list, but their 3 album stretch of awesomeness covered their 2nd 3rd and 4th records

That would be "Up to Here", "Road Apples" and "Fully Completely" - I would put this trio up against any Blues Rock band's stretch of consecutive albums. Yes including LZ and the Stones

11. C'mon man ... can't dock LZIII on account of how great LZIV was, that's not fair ;)

Boy, October, and War all have a couple 'not THAT great' tracks on them as well ... As do REM's first 3.

There's enough highlights on LZIII that I still proclaim it to be overall greatness. Immigrant Song, Since I've Been Loving You, Gallows Pole, That's the Way, and Bron-Y-Aur Stomp alone make it a great record. And Friends, Tangerine, and Out on the Tiles are all solid tracks. It's really only the last song that sucks. AND let's not forget Hey Hey What Can I Do was the b-side of Immigrant Song ... they should've put it on the record instead of the Harper song.

My 'more obscure' votes for 'best first 3 albums' would be for Crowded House and Third Eye Blind.

And if you're gonna pick best 3 album stretch ... the winner is Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Peppers ... and there's no arguing against this.

12. That is a stretch of all time greatness. I'm not going to push back against the Mid-Career Beatles

But on Led Zep, I disagree - If we are looking at a 3 album stretch, the fact that a much better album preceded it and immediately followed it does color the perception of number 3

My hyperbole, my rules!

On the plus side - It looks like I will be able to watch the WS after all - I could never have rooted for the Yankees, but I can pull for the team that beat them.
