I'm often trapped in the car with the kids (ages 11 and 9), and forced to listen to top hits. 
I caught this one once with my daughter, and we tried to figure out the artist/title for a few days (they never announced it the few times we heard it on the radio). I like the retro feel of it - my husband even kinda liked it.
We finally figured it out and played it over and over on Youtube...till I bought it for my little girl's iPod. 
While the song's a real ear-worm, I thought it was a bit too quirky to even get picked up by the commercial radio stations here, but I was wrong on that....
In case anyone ever thinks Gotye is a one-hit wonder, here's one of his songs from a few years ago called 'Learnalilgivinanlovin'. I remember Triple J playing it heaps, and I loved it...
and possibly of the decade.
