On this day, May 12, 1942, Ian Dury was born.

Ian Dury

Ian Robins Dury (12 May 1942 – 27 March 2000) was an English singer-songwriter and actor who rose to fame during the late 1970s, during the punk and new wave era of rock music. He was the lead singer of Ian Dury and the Blockheads and before that of Kilburn and the High Roads.

If you've heard only one song by Ian Dury and the Blockheads, it's this one.

As far as I can tell he never toured with the Blockheads as far West as Los Angeles so
we never had a chance to see the band live.

If you get a chance read any of the bios of his life; interesting and even inspiring.

Now I am going to brush off my copy of ‘New Boots and Panties’ and take it for a spin.

He tore the Odean Theater in half.

This version of the Blockheads had all the talent. Wilko Johnson guitar. Norman Watt Roy bass. Jimmy James on drums.
