norah jones - nightingale (live-2002) easily my favorite tune of hers

the closing corker on Come Away With Me ...

and the original ... musical perfection, imho ... here's a vinyl drop that sounds brill ... and I highly recommend actually clicking the youtube link and running it from there, sounds noticeably better than it does playing it on DU

It's SO easy to pour something "soothing" and sit back and spend the evening listening to her!

Such a pristine recording, somehow a quiet(ISH) song with dramatic dynamic range and plenty of space for the spare portions of the song to fit into the overall piece without seeming lost or neglected...

If that makes sense to any one but me

It's borderline magical. And of course that makes sense to me ... I mean ... why do you think I also put that one up?

So that's nice.

OTOH it's my ex-wife's 45th birthday so I'm a bit ... melancholy I suppose. Been a couple years now but days like this are still a little hard for me.

I did buy myself a new reciever. Well, actually an old one, on craiglist. It's pretty sweet, Denon AVR-3803. Legit 110x7 RMS, measured full range (20-20k) @ 8 Ohm, all channels driven.

Thing weighs friggin 36.3 lbs. It's no joke.

It's just for the computer/music setup. I have a REALLY old Denon I'm using now ... super nice but it's basically stereo only and I want to be able to game with 7.1, and this amp has discrete analog pre-inputs for all 8 channels.

Not doing HDMI for reasons that are long-winded, I'm going to use the soundcard for the DA conversion and run all 8 channels analog to the amp ... it's just friggin easier ... plus this amp has no HDMI anyway.

$100. Absolutely cherry condition. No remote though. Killer deal IMHO. Haven't hooked it up, prolly wait for my 4 x 1/8"-to-Stereo RCA connector cables needed for my little connection scheme to arrive on Wednesday.

You?

And used that system to handle the zones/channels. Sounds like a nice set up

I finished all the work my project manager created for me and am hoping for more - Other wise I just sit looking at nothing all day.

At home (I work 5 days in the office out of 10 duty days) I can at least look at you tube waiting for an email or phone call.

On the plus side I'm healthy and employed [- so that is pretty good about now in America

I'm working at home full-time (we all are, still) and my last two weeks time card was ... a bit short of the proper 80 hours, no fault of mine. Starting to worry me a bit. He says he has something for me so that's good. Definitely having a job ... is good right now

Hopefully this more HT-oriented amp vs my kickass old Denon integrated amp (it's practically like having separates, awesome-sounding preamp stage and amp section has a huge toroidal transformer and really beefy caps inside) doesn't suffer in the sound department too much.

Newish one is still old enough to be Made In Japan though, so that's a positive.
