Statesboro Blues: The Allman Brothers, Fillmore

- 1971, recorded at the Fillmore. At Fillmore East is a double live album by The Allman Brothers Band. The band's breakthrough success, At Fillmore East was released in July 1971. It ranks Number 49 among Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Enjoy in the southern mix of rock, blues & jazz.
________

- THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND was an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969 by brothers Duane Allman (founder, slide guitar & lead guitar) & Gregg Allman (vocals, keyboards, songwriting), as well as Dickey Betts (lead guitar, vocals, songwriting), Berry Oakley (bass guitar), Butch Trucks (drums), & Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson (drums). The band incorporated elements of blues, jazz, & country music, and their live shows featured jam band-style improvisation & instrumentals.
The group's first 2 studio releases, The Allman Brothers Band (1969) & Idlewild South (1970), stalled commercially, but their 1971 live release, At Fillmore East, represented an artistic & commercial breakthrough. The album features extended renderings of their songs "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" & "Whipping Post", & is considered among the best live albums ever made.
Group leader Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident later that year- on October 29, 1971- and the band dedicated Eat a Peach (1972) to his memory, a dual studio/live album that cemented the band's popularity & featured Gregg Allman's "Melissa" & Dickey Betts's "Blue Sky". Following the motorcycling death of bassist Berry Oakley exactly one year & 13 days later on November 11, 1972, the group recruited keyboardist Chuck Leavell & bassist Lamar Williams for 1973's Brothers & Sisters. This album included Betts's hit single "Ramblin' Man" & instrumental "Jessica". These tunes went on to become classic rock radio staples, & placed the group at the forefront of 1970s rock music...

- Blind Willie McTell - Statesboro Blues, 1928.

~ Lyrics Statesboro Blues (By Will McTell 1928).

Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low
Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low
You got no nerve baby to turn Uncle John from your door

I woke up this morning, I had them Statesboro Blues
I woke up this morning, had them Statesboro Blues
Well, I looked over the corner and Grandpa seemed to have them too

Well, my momma died and left me
My poppa died and left me
I ain't good looking baby
I'm somewhat sweet and kind

I'm goin' to the country, baby do you wanna go?
If you can't make it baby
Your sister Lucille said she wanna go
And I sure will take her

I love that woman, better than any woman I've ever seen
Well, I love that woman, better than any woman I've ever seen
Well, now, she treat me like a king, yeah, yeah, yeah
And she look like a dog gone queen

Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low
Wake up momma, turn your lamp down low
You got no nerve baby, to turn Uncle John from your door ~
