(41,105 posts)but their music is still Gold. The Conan interview with Gregg now posted in Video is fun.
I didn't realize he was so close with Pres. Carter but it makes sense. Saw Allman Bros. perform in Oct. 1971, and Gov. Carter debate Ford in Oct. 1976 in college. Time flies!

(2,220 posts)It was okay, but he seemed pretty strung out. I remember feeling disappointed. We saw the farewell tour in Nashville in 2009, and that was incredible. His final album still brings me to tears. Amazing soul..

(41,105 posts)major losses and challenges. Wish I'd followed him & the band more in later yrs. but was busy w career, marriage.
*Dan Rather's in- depth interview w/ Gregg in 2015, two years before he passed is wonderful. Also heartbreaking when he discusses the early loss of his dad, mom Patsy, Duane, drug struggles, more. Some funny, human stories too.
Maybe I'll post the interview it if I can find a good video copy.
I went to Columbus several times in my youth, knew local C. musicians who performed at WVU, Morgantown.

(2,220 posts)My husband is a musician who played around the region back in the day.
I would love to see that interview if you find it. Ill look for it, too.
I really didnt become a serious Allmans fan until Im No Angel. I liked their songs when I heard them on the radio, but all I knew of them was Gregg and Cher.

(41,105 posts)not on You Tube so far. It's lengthy but so well worth watching.
I kinda lost touch during the Cher & Greg years too.
The Columbus musicians I knew played at a club in Morgantown, c. 1972-73; I can't think of the name now. A friend and I worked the bar there some, and the group let me spin a few records during breaks which was fun. I was so young..
