2. May 8, 1970, Norman, Ok., still the greatest show I've ever seen

He played two sold-out shows back-to-back. I can't remember a lot from those days but I can remember moments from this show like it was yesterday. It was at the OU fieldhouse which seated about 5 or 6000. We stood outside listening to the first show and I was thinking, 'man he won't have anything left for the second show.' Of course I was wrong. He was brilliant, even though it was hot in the un-air conditioned venue. Near the end they turned up the lights and I looked around at the crowd, sweating and exhausted and then turned to look back down at Jimi, still just wailing and riffing on his Strat. I've seen a lot of shows and great musicians since, but none were ever as good as that magical night in Norman.
