(9,895 posts)That opening was featured prominently in 2 Live Crew's record "Nasty As They Wanna Be", which shot to fame for the censorship battles of the late 80's, but I always remember the original before I remember the samples.

(1,537 posts)Van Halen took over for Kiss when I moved to California in 1981. What an enormous influence on so many people. Van Halen does not exist any longer. RIP Eddie. He fought cancer for years longer than most.

(39,369 posts)Never get tired of that because I remember how surprised and thrilled I was to hear it. It got FM airplay and was the first thing I ever heard from them. I thought rockn roll was dead and this was seriously good old school stuff. They had obviously been at it for awhile and paid their dues but for the general public they came out of nowhere. You knew they had to be good to be playing the music they were playing and get a record deal in the late 70s when for many of us traditional rock had either gone soft or lost its way to the point where one could wonder if youd ever hear good straight-ahead stuff again.

(47,141 posts)they didn't get a ton of respect either. upturned noses at the newcomers? It has been gratifying to see Eddie and the group still talked about and their music still being played all over the world. Eddie, your passing made me incredibly sad, because you were such a unique and gifted player and you brought a lot of joy and fun into this often dark world. Peace my brother.
