1. Jack White is amazing
In my mind, he's approaching the rarified air of musicians we routinely describe as Legends. That plateau where artists such as Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, Prince and Bob Dylan live.
For the last 2 decades, in multiple genres, with dozens of different musicians he's put out true quality music. Startling, original music. I have a weakness for traditional mountain music, and this is one of the best versions of this classic I know of. All the way on the other side of everything Wayfaring Stranger represents is this song. But it seems just as genuine and effortless. That Black Bat Licorice is a gumbo of every modern music trope, it should feel phony and contrived - but sounds cohesive and original instead. |

2. I agree with you, I have always considered Jack White as an aspiring legend.
He just has that certain something and does not take no for an answer when it comes to his music and style.
The song Lazeretto is incredible as well. A combination of Rock, Hip Hop, Honkytonk with that Jack White signature guitar gruffness bordering on insanity. I also love I'm Shakin' (actually, I have tons of Third Man Records albums, I was a vault member for years until I retired). |
