(46,023 posts)TOP is my band. I was at the 40th anniversary concert at the Fillmore in SF and at the 50th at the Fox in Oakland. Sometimes, I think I'm crying in the wilderness to get people to appreciate soul music around here.

I am so envious that you saw these great musicians live - that would be my dream!! Along with the Isley Brothers!

(46,023 posts)A couple of them are friends now, including Jerry Cortez, their best guitar player ever, and Roger Smith. He does the first B3 solo on Knock Yourself Out here. Roger also has a winery, Bump City Winery. Jerry, Roger, and their wives are really sweet people.

(1,537 posts)Thanks. Iv'e neglected them for too long. Time to add back to the playlist.
Their best track ever is Knock Yourself Out from the live album recorded in Sacramento. The album cover is all red. On vinyl, the one track takes up an entire side. Featured is the amazing Lenny Pickett, but don't miss David Garibaldi's drumming.
I once had the great fortune to be standing next to David as we watched a different tape of Knock Yourself Out, and I asked him, "How does it feel to be in the middle of that?" He said, "Like you're going 100 miles per hour and you can't stop." He's over 70 now and still doing it. Amazing man.
