My dad was the local liaison to a promoter. (City rules said the skating arena couldn't be used without a local nonprofit being part of it. My dad was that guy.)
About 10 weeks a summer, there were 3 band bills each Monday.
My dad's connections meant 4 backstage passes every week from sophomore year of HS until I finished college.
These folks were from Chicago, so they played a couple times a year. Every one of them were as nice as can be. Chaka was only 17 or 18 when we first met them. She had an amazing voice even when she was barely past being a kid!
We met lots of bands in those days!

The guitar player was a wonderful guy. He would go to the cooler & get us pop!
We met all kinds of bands in those days.
Rare Earth
Three Dog Night (the first year before they became huge)
Blue Oyster Cult
Bloodrock
Black Oak Arkansas
Ides of March
REO Speed wagon
Head East
And so on...
Fun times.

I first saw her on Dick Cavett doing this song. On a side note, I drove from California to Ohio in 1974 met a girl and married her, unfortunately it only lasted about 5 years but they were happy years
