(33,643 posts)edit: it's actually Sonny Landreth and/or Bernie Leadon on guitar.
Ry Cooder was on the album before, Bring the Family.
Those two records, Bring the Family and Slow Turning ... stone cold classics, man. Don't get any better.

(8,104 posts)Thanks for the heads up.
The first Buddy Guy album I ever heard was "A Man and the Blues" and I've been hooked on him ever since.

(8,104 posts)I went on Youtube looking for the version with Ry Cooder and couldn't find it. I really wanted to though because I love pretty much anything Ry Cooder does, ever since I heard "Paradise and Lunch" at a party. "Jesus on the Mainline" "It's All Over Now" and "Fool for a Cigarette." I was hooked for life. In fact, only yesterday I was listening to "Talking Timbuktu". It's what got me into listening to all this incredible music from Mali. Ry Cooder has to be the only person on earth to turn down being a member of the Rolling Stones. What a thing to have on your resume!
I did find the "Bring the Family" version and it is truly awesome. I can't believe I hadn't heard this before. Thank you for the turn on.
Here's one for you, but maybe you've heard it already. John Lee Hooker, ""Live at Soledad Prison." It sometimes is listed under a different name which I can't now remember, recorded I think in 1972. The whole album is awesome, but the opening track is just amazing. The song is "Superlover" and it's sung by John Lee Hooker Jr., who was the opening act. The lead guitar solo is just incredible.
Thanks again for the turn on.

(33,643 posts)Hiatt's album Bring The Family (1987) has Ry Cooder, Jim Keltner on drums, and Nick Lowe on bass ... which is a legendary line up, but doesn't have Feels Like Rain. It does however have the original version of Have A Little Faith In Me, one of the greatest songs of all time. And every song is solid. A landmark, if you will.
John's next record, Slow Turning (1988) features Sonny Landreth and Bernie Leadon on guitar. That one has Feels Like Rain. I personally think it's every bit as great as Bring the Family, song for song, even if the lineup is not quite as illustrious, the songs are killer.
I shall check out this 1972 record you speak of

(33,643 posts)And I went to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo ... I've drove through Soledad along the 101 QUITE a number of times.
Thankfully, never visited the Big House there though, lol ...
