(21,995 posts)The lead singer in Brazil '66 was an American woman named Loni Hall. In addition to her performances with Sergio Mendes, she recorded several solo albums and she sang the title song for the James Bond film, "Never Say Never Again."
Here's some music business insider-ness. Herb Alpert, the trumpeter and leader of The Tijuana Brass, was also the "A" of A&M Records, (Jerry Moss was the "M" and he was the business partner). This was the label that Alpert started in his garage to promote his band. As the company succeeded spectacularly, his A&R staff (Artist & Repertoire) brought in many talented performers and writers. A&M became an incredibly successful label.
Herb and Lani are still married since 1973. Check out this song, it's called "Sun Down Lady." Interestingly, it's actually a song called "Muscrat Love" that was made popular by The Captain and Tennille. Somehow, an alternative lyric was written.
I've often wondered why the song's writers approved (or re-wrote) the lyrics.

(26,044 posts)...it was written by iconoclastic country performer Willis Alan Ramsey, who released it as "Muskrat Candlelight" on his first album. The version you posted was released just about the same time as his own album, so I suspect he was still reworking the lyrics. The version we're most familiar with ("Muskrat Love" ) was first recorded by America on Hat Trick a year later, so I guess he had decided on the final form of the song by then.

(21,995 posts)Ms. Hall's version always struck me as the one with the better lyric but that's because I don't like muskrats!
