This was in my YouTube recs tonight.
I posted a video a couple days ago of U2 pulling a tribute band up on stage to play a song. I guess some of the guys later returned the favor at one of the tribute bands gigs.
My favorite part is the guy you can hear going, Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god, when he realizes who the special guests are, lol!

(4,606 posts)I tried to find some backstory on this and, apparently, the band thought the Edges guitar tech was the one coming to play with them. They were pretty stoked about that. But, really, he came by to get stuff ready for Edge and Adam, who surprised the band. How cool is that?!

(65,010 posts)Never been a fan of tribute bands, but a U2 version I might enjoy.
There was a big tribute band around Chicago doing Pink Floyd that were really good. But, I couldn't sit through a whole night.
U2, though? Maybe, yes!

The only one Ive been to see is the Dark Star Orchestra a few times.

(33,643 posts)It was called Wild Child and I tell you the singer was the SPITTING IMAGE of Jim, he had him down way more than Kilmer in the Doors movie. Manner, moves, voice. Dude was amazing. And the KB player looked hella like Manzarek, and they played the tunes so friggin' well.
They were very cool to go see. Once I saw them at the Whisky A Go-Go, which was perfect.

(65,010 posts)...was a Genesis tribute band.
Good players, great audio, very nice lighting.
They ended set 1 with "Lamb Lies Down". I'd had enough after that and went home.
And I liked Genesis enough to see them live, twice.
Tribute bands just don't flip my whistle.
That said, in Las Vegas on a Sunday afternoon, I saw a Steely Dan tribute band. Truly pro musicians, with chops to burn.
But, I only heard 2 songs & part of another and had to start driving back to LA. I probably would have stayed a decent amount of time if I could.
Edit Note: neither singer really made an effort to sound like Fagan. That actually made it better for me.
