(15,124 posts)1. "Society's Child" still gives me goosebumps and tears. With this song and her other classic,
"At Seventeen", Janis Ian literally reached into my heart and made me really think about what I already knew was the awful truth.
Her extraordinary gift went underappreciated because our society was not yet ready for the truth she told. She "went there" while others looked the other way.

the composition and that she was just a 14yo child herself when she first wrote it. Just remarkable on every level.
