Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumI listened to a ridiculous amount of new music last year, a ton of it I liked, but this song ...
It's just one of those tunes that makes me kinda misty. Which means I love it
The lyrics, the melody, the delivery, where her voice is just on the verge of cracking in the pre-chorus (dancing in my living room part ... it's hard to perfectly capture a feeling in the form of song, but that section just freaking nails it).
So, yeah, I know it was popular, but this is a case where a popular song ... is also an incredible song.

(33,643 posts)And you're right it's a basic 4-chord ballad ... but the lyrics are great, the vocals are great (esp. that pre-chorus ... man that is good!) and total package ... it's just really really good song. That steel guitar is HUGE in how good it is, I'd add.
Even by like, 1972 singer-songwriter standards

(4,119 posts)So hard to get all the ingredients right in something like this. Its way easier to hide behind layers of guitars and keys but all the elements have to be spot on in something this naked.
Well-crafted pop songs are such rare gems. Thanks for pointing this one out!
