When You Fall.
By Gary Numan
Off the new album Intruder. Released May 21, 2021.
I want to talk about you
I want to talk about your "thoughts and prayers"
I want to talk about your God
I want to talk about the things we share
Is there anything?
I want to talk about fear
I want to talk about the fear you breed
I want to talk about your faith
And how you keep a straight face
And here you are
With flame in hand
In the dark, when you fall, does He wait for you?
Can you hear in the quiet? Does He whisper to you?
In the storm, when you scream, does He call for you?
But can you see just for a moment that He's laughing at you?
I want to talk about hate
I want to talk about the hate you feel
I want to talk about your pride
And what exactly you are so proud of
Is there anything?
I want to talk about greed
I want to talk about the greed you hide
I want to talk about your soul
I want to talk about shame
And here you are
With blood on your hands.
In the dark, when you fall, does He wait for you?
Can you hear in the quiet? Does He whisper to you?
In the storm, when you scream, does He call for you?
But can you see just for a moment that He's laughing at you?

(12,286 posts)His last and album in 2017, Savage, and the new album, Intruder, are companion pieces primarily focused on global warming, pollution, and man destroying the planet.
Savage was about the men and contemplating the survivors of and perpetrators of environmental ruin.
Intruder is often from the point of view of the planet itself contemplating the small insignificant creatures that are destroying their home.
Thats basically a thumbnail version of how he explained it on Sirius XM last month.

(9,998 posts)Is it directed at the MAGA crowd?
I'm no genius, but those lyrics leave me little variance from that belief.
"Thoughts & Prayers." "Is He Laughing At You?"
Just wondering if he's spoken about that song in particular yet.
Get him on some talk/late-night shows for an interview and performance.

(12,286 posts)I got the album this week and the lyrics to this song really hit me. And yes its not subtle about his thoughts on the thoughts and prayers crowd.

I don't know his work.

(9,998 posts)But I imagine he will say that it is sarcasm.
It Clearly Is Not Sarcasm. It is the truth.

(23,945 posts)She's a bit of an odd bird. I'm interested in her thoughts on this - 2017, you say, for an earlier album?
I'm interested in her thoughts but DEFINITELY not engaging.
In 2016, shortly after the orange menace stole the election, her t-humper brother confronted IN MY OWN HOUSE when I was lending him some winter wear for his kids.... It was my first and last face-to-face with a t-humper. It kind of sent me down a psychotic? rabbit hole for about 24 hours. Has anyone else experienced this? I've talked about it here.
Essentially, it was a what-you-would-expect psycho t-humper out of touch with reality spewing every sick sociopathic talking point. I figured I finally got him when I brought up Obama's birth certificate. Oh no....didja know the numbers don't match up....???!!!
Anyway (and more a description of my own mental processes, I assume), I spent the next day and a half in bed researching John Kerry and swiftboat, and other "alternative facts" just to get some confirmation... I wasn't in my own mind for a couple days after the confrontation, and came to see how their methods work. Fortunately, it wore off before too long. But his techniques and words made me question what I knew to be truth temporarily!!!
