Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumI read about Ricky Skaggs recent claim that 45 was God's chosen instrument
A prophet and whatnot.
I read it with a heavy heart, because Ricky is a master class Folk and Blue grass musician and that is my favorite type of music.
Every time I come across examples of Right Wing craziness, bigotry, racism and hate from the folk/country/bluegrass community I cringe.
Because in the minds of so many non fans, those hateful pieces of shit are the de facto voice of Mountain Music, Folk and Bluegrass. And by extension it also becomes our voice in your mind.
The voice of those of us who came up in rural coal country or any other rural area around America.
Don't get it twisted - I will never say that the area I grew up in wasn't racist. It was.
It was as racist as any where I've ever been - but so is literally everywhere else I've ever been in the good ol' US of A.
Here's the thing though. The music is for everyone. To listen to and to play. So please don't fall into the false line of reasoning, that one place, one style of music or one type of work is the problem. The racist or homophobic shitpile that should be avoided.
Don't make the mistake of pretending that somehow the racists are the "Other" they are us.
There are awful people everywhere and round about now they don't feel the need to hide it.
There are also folks fighting that shit everywhere and some of them play the fucking banjo or a fiddle
Tyler doesn't mince words about it
