(57,077 posts)... post. I was listening to "Overnight Sensation" by the Mothers of Invention. Pretty shocked at what I was listening to in the late 60's.

(6,992 posts)One last tangent. Le Butcherettes are Mexican. Punky and theatric. The leader is truly channeling some crazy spirits. I've gone down the rabbit hole on you tube with this band. Caught them at a Club in Chicago before Covid.

I saw a tall punk rocker on a TV show in Houston sometime in the 80's, and it made me look at rock from south of the border.
Gasolina really got my attention. I just listen to the music.

(6,992 posts)I'm second generation Mexican born and raised in Chicago and the suburbs. I'm back in Chicago about 30 years now. My daughters are 16 and 13, stone South Siders. Driving them and their friends to school made me a Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Salena Gomez fan. And I was a stone hard rock/metal guy. LOL.
My older daughter listens to a lot of Latin music. More than I ever did. The girls keep me connected to pop culture. I'm glad I can still appreciate the Post Malones and Olivia Rodrigos. Oh and a shout out to Rhianna and Dua Lipa. I love there songs and voices.
That said, I think Radiohead is my favorite band from the last 30 years. It was The Pretenders before that. Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple before that. I could go on, LOL.
I dig a lot of country and folk, too. Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris are my favorite. Joni is just the best.
I am able to find something I like in almost any genre. Keep sharing. Thanks. I should stop rambling, have that beer, and go to bed. Peace.

(57,077 posts)... cumbia (?) beat gets me. I'll still hear her on the border stations. Linda Ronstadt did some good records. Only natural, I suppose. I lived in Arizona, and we'd hear a lot of "Mexican Polka" and a good Mariachi band with a good strong singer and a bunch of horns still gets my heart pumping.
I'm like you, if it has a good beat and I can dance to it, I'll give it a listen.
