(32,606 posts)1st time I can recall hearing the Commander was on Huntington Ave, in Boston. 71? We were walking by this place and we heard the music and said WTF? let's check it out. The rest was history.
Thanks Commander....you will be remembered for the saddest song ever....

(7,288 posts)First time (of many) I saw the Commander was in '72 at the Agora in Columbus, Ohio. I went with my girlfriend, best friend and his girlfriend... who was underage. The doorman let the three "adults" of us in but left "Trixie" out in the cold. We watched the opening act and, at intermission, went on a search for the poor lost soul.
We spotted the Commander's bus in a back lot:

... and noticed a broken window. At that moment, the door swung open and "Trixie" emerged, followed by a cloud of smoke and the band. "Hey! Did you break our window?" yelled someone, then the whole crew burst out laughing. They let "Trixie" in through the artist's entrance and we didn't see her for the rest of the show.
She had the best time of her life, while we regretted our disinterest in her wellbeing.
BTW, here's Nicolette Larson helping out the band in 1977:

(7,288 posts)George's brother Chris did all the album artwork. Super-talented, he sadly passed away in 1992 of MS.

George was a graphic artist as well.
