They were the biggest thing out of Chicago, until the band, Chicago.
They had 5 or 6 top 20 hits, including as US #1.
Their name was adopted to sound kind of British, but it had the connection to a local landmark too. It was a natural fit.
I met Fortuna at Chicagofest in '83 or '84. Was pretty standoffish & distant for about 15 minutes, then suddenly he was talkative & friendly. I only hung out about 45 minutes, then my wife wanted to move on.
At that show, they had expanded to about 9 members. At least. There was a bunch of guys on stage.
The rest of the time we were there I only shook hands with the drummer & keyboard player. I mostly talked with Fortuna & their guitar tech.
Show was really good. When they could play 105 minutes and 30 of it were major hits, they couldn't go wrong!
