Through my company I have done business with a Mennonite business. In business they can use any technology -- electricity, computers, you name it. It is only in personal life that they are restricted. And there Mennonites are not as restricted as the Amish, but even the Amish have a brisk business converting household appliances like blenders to run on compressed air instead of electricity. They can appear surprisingly modern in certain circumstances. I think it is more of a tribal identity thing of remaining "other" more than any kind of actual faith in God.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
