..."In 1966, John Hartford lived with his wife and son in a trailer on the east side of Nashville, Tennessee. One night, the couple saw the film Doctor Zhivago at the local theater. Inspired by the love story depicted in the movie between Yuri Zhivago and Lara Antipova, Hartford returned home and within 2030 minutes he composed "Gentle on My Mind". [1] Betty Hartford, who later divorced her husband, remarked him the similarity between the woman in the song and herself. She questioned Hartford about the negative feelings of the man towards his marriage.
