It's much more stark than "The Boss"'s version but speaks to the lyrics:

I was right in front, literally 5 feet from him, he was up on only about a 2ft high stage ... can't even tell you how close I was the whole time ... and I was in total hero-worship mode ... at the end he threw his pick right at me and my wife, I assume because of how enthusiastic we were, singing along and dancing (when appropriate), which she recovered and still has ... no way that ever happens again. Esp. not for like $24 like I spent per ticket, with fees. Going to such a great shows like that make it hard to enjoy giant Arena gigs, no matter how great the artist.
He and the 400 Unit are an unbelievably tight and powerful outfit, and most of his stuff is WAY less ... somber ... than this rendition of BITUSA.

(11,794 posts)Never heard of him. Shame on me I guess. Great version. Someone I'll have to dig into. Thanks for the turn on doc!
Never been a fan of Springsteen. The running joke in my last few bands was, "if he's the boss I quit! " Don't get me wrong, huge respect for Bruce. As a person & a songwriter. Just never got into him. This cover really focuses on the genius of his lyrics.

(16,858 posts)Do yourself a favor and dig into Jason Isbell...the guy is phenomenal, plus he's a full on southern born unapologetic liberal like me. Saw him last year at the Ryman and they had the ACLU in the lobby signing people up to vote!

(11,794 posts)To date, the most "Americana" group I'm into is The Avett Bros. I'll dig some more into Mr. Isbell. Really appreciate the turn on.
P. S. You heard Sweet Pickle Salad?
