- From 'Sun Valley Serenade' (1941) starring John Payne, Milton Berle, Sonja Henie, with Glenn Miller & His Orchestra, & featuring Dorothy Dandridge & The Nicholas Brothers. Sun Valley Serenade was one of the only 2 films featuring Miller & his Orchestra during the 1940s before his surprising death in 1944 during World War II.
-------
- Dorothy Jean Dandridge (Nov. 9, 1922 Sept. 8, 1965) was an American actress, singer, & dancer. She is the first African-American film star to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, which was for her performance in Carmen Jones (1954).
Dandridge performed as a vocalist in venues such as the Cotton Club & the Apollo Theater. During her early career, she performed as a part of The Wonder Children, later The Dandridge Sisters, & appeared in a succession of films, usually in uncredited roles.. Dandridge was a Democrat who supported the campaign of Adlai Stevenson during the 1952 presidential election. Having developed an interest in activism because of the racism she encountered in the industry, Dandridge became involved with the National Urban League and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothy_Dandridge
- Dandridge in The Decks Ran Red (1958).

He would have been 5 to 16 years old at the height of the big band era.
It never lost its appeal for him.
He would know who played what instrument on different songs.
That & Cool Jazz (West Coast) were his things to the day he died.
I played Moonlight Seranade on piano at the funeral.
