'Airplay: The Rise and Fall of Rock Radio,' Documentary

- Trailer, 1-hour film airing on PBS Channels & the World Channel (worlchannel.org).*Check schedules.
https://worldchannel.org/schedule/2021-11-27/

The full film covers the popularity and rise of new rock music beginning in the mid- 1950s: Elvis to Chuck Berry and many others; early opposition in the conservative post-war Eisenhower era and the Red Scare and McCarthy period to the new 'kids music,' R & B and Black music which many considered decadent.

The zenith years of rock radio and its personalities, mid- 1950s through the 1970s. Well known colorful DJ's- disc jockeys on stations across the US played records and promoted new music by artists that people never would have known about otherwise.

The 80s, impacts of the Reagan administration's changes in media regulation led to corporate consolidation of radio stations, mainly on the right.

It was on late last night n I watched it again this afternoon. I just loved it. All this month they have been highlighting Native American Heritage Month.. I hope they don’t wait a year to re-run these documentaries

My edit.. the contribution that Americans Indians made to Rock n Roll .. I’ve been watching PBS all day n the two are related.

The Indians That Rocked The World' features about the film earlier today on the World Channel/PBS, researched it, and intended to post about the documentary tomorrow.

But after reading the fortuitous comment you made, I decided to go for it. So a Rumble OP with features and video clips of the film is now up in this section. Thanks for the inspiration.

Rumble segments that I've seen are excellent, long overdue.

I've loved rock and roll and blues since a little kid listening to Elvis, Ricky Nelson, The Beatles, Dylan and soul giants Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye.

Then The Doors, Cream, Sly, Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, The Allman Brothers, Jackson Brown, many more.
