Most of the Monkees early recordings were either Micky or Davy as lead singer, in the studio alone with professional session musicians and backup singers. So while Mike and Peter were agitating for more input in their music, Davy recorded this song (written by Neil Diamond) and it was released as a single while the other 3 Monkees, or at least Mike and Peter, had no idea the song existed.
Despite that bit of history its a great song, well done Davy! RIP to you and Mike.
