Saturday Night Deep Dive #2 (Live...mostly)

Howdy and welcome to Saturday Night Deep Dive.

For your enjoyment, I am going to provide eight YouTube songs every Sat. at 6 PM MDT. Being 63 YO my primary focus will be the classic rock era from approx. 1965 to 1976. That doesn’t mean I won’t be presenting songs from many different genres, eras and artists. The songs may be the artist’s most popular tunes but have been buried by time. They are most likely to be a little more obscure “B” sides that you may or may not have heard. Some are just great live and studio performances. Some are ones you’re getting from me just because. I am not saying these are the best compositions of all time; I am just saying they could be entertaining for many or just some (or none) of you. It can be a steady Sat. night distraction for a while. IMO, they all have pretty good hooks of one sort or another. YMMV.

Almost all the bands will be known to you. The songs may have been posted on this site already, but I am not going to search for duplicates. Let’s see if we can find something you may not have seen or heard for a while. So, get yourselves a nice libation (liquid or herbal), cookies and milk, or whatever tickles your fancy, and settle in for a good listen. It may be well worth the price of admission (or not).

I hope you enjoy it. Paha Sapa

Week #2 (Live…mostly).

Doobie Brothers- Clear as the Driven Snow. Nice live performance of a fun song.

Fleetwood Mac-Dragonfly. Old Fleetwood Mac. Interesting song, but the payoff is once you get by the early 1970’s crappy video effects there is a panning shot of the band that shows a very young-looking Christine McVie, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood (using mallets, I think they are called). Danny Kirwan on lead guitar and lead vocals with Bob Welsh playing rhythm. It’s dreamy and quite catchy.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters- I’ll Play the Blues for You. Nice blues with a horn section. Looks like fun in a great venue. It’s an Albert King ditty.

Brandi Carlile-Madman Across the Water. What a great cover of one of my top three EJ songs. Nice string section.

Nils Lofgren-Shine Silently. This is the first (of probably many) performances from the Dutch TV show called Two Meter Sessies (Can also be searched as Two Meter Sessions). They normally have great production with live songs in a studio environment. It’s the best of all worlds IMHO. Nils is just a favorite from way back. Fun stuff. “Let’s pick it up boys”. A lot of good ones from the 90’s on TMS.

Supertramp- Rudy Early Supertramp. Nice performance that highlight all of them.

Bruce Springsteen-Badlands. What a great show. Man, that Max is a madman. Then Clarence jumps out. What else do you need besides a place to dance around? Wow.

The Who-Sparks (Woodstock) This might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Looks like quite the workout. Then there was the life and death battle with the guitar strap. All done at around 5 AM on the second day. The Isle of Wight recording is cleaner, but the theatrics in this one are well worth the fee. I read somewhere they were cubed before the performance. The band reportedly hated the whole experience
