He was a sonically inventive guitarist, for sure.
But, there was a period where Howard Leese had to learn both parts of every song, because in live shows he often had to take over for Roger.
Howard had enough and told Ann & Nancy he couldn't continue to work in a situation where song to song the didn't know what he needed to do. Ann & Nancy sided with Howard, and launched Roger in '79.
He was very talented, but squandered his skills.
