Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumCesar Zuiderwijk, Golden Earring's drummer for 51 years, was born on this date, July 18
Born in 1948, the same year as his bandmates George Kooymans and Barry Hay (Rinus Gerritsen is two years older).
One of the greatest drummers ever. After Keith Moon's death, the other members of The Who asked Cesar to join their band -- they'd toured with Golden Earring -- but he declined.
74 now, and still making great music. i hope he'll have many more healthy years to do so.
Editing to add video of the full concert Cesar did with Sloper for RockPalast in 2020:

(4,474 posts)I might not be a drummer were it not for his performance on Radar Love. He made it swing as hard as it rocked. Got to see him many years later opening for Rush and he did not disappoint.

(4,474 posts)Thanks for pointing that out - fun to see drummers trying to break it down. Its technically not all that difficult but its fast and has to be played with the exact right feel. It was kind of the Wipeout of my generation.
