I was trying to think how Supertramp’s songs were similar to those of Pink Floyd, and coming up empty…. then I realized what you meant.

Most good bands have more than one member contributing to songwriting… and they’re usually not named Roger!

Well done

I also think Rick's vocal is pretty Floyd-like here, in particular, it sounds Gilmore-esque to me. Money is the first comparison that comes to mind (it having come out in the prior year on DSOTM) but some of Dave's later singing reminds me even more of Rick's here. It's also exactly the kind of song Waters would've written around then, thematically. And then he kinda did so in 1979 with Another Brick in the Wall Part II.

Also 'Rick' was the name of Floyd's keyboardist. Both bands are Prog-ish British bands who's heyday's coincide (Breakfast in America and The Wall both being 1979 for example), both split acrimoniously in the early 1980's because the two leaders couldn't get along.

In both cases, at least at the time of the splits, the Roger's got all the credit for the greatness of the bands work.

Lotta parallels in my mind, actually

So many bits to dig. The anchor riff is awesome., the feel shift in the chorus, ...
Besides it has the line "...shut your face."
What's not to like?
This came out my first month of college. I heard it on the sound system radio at the banquet hall where I worked weekends as a janitor. I remember like it happened last week.
