10 Days -- 10 great live performances Van Morrison

1975-1985

The Band's Last Waltz tour, made into an album and movie, featured a number of legendary performers--Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, and Eric Clapton.

But the act that Robbie Robinson called the high point of the show was the reclusive, diminutive, dour chap from Belfast. Like Santana who infused blues with a Latin feel, Van Morrison took early black soul and stewed it into a witch's brew of Celtic mysticism. Nobody could belt it out like Van the Man . . . and no backing band -- along with the killer horn section -- could have been better to lay down the rhythm and chordal foundations than The Band itself.

This is one of my all-time fave songs. And I have The Last Waltz on DVD. So good.

I also love The Weight with the Staple Singers so, so much. Though that was done in studio around the same time, not the actual concert.
