This is an hour's worth of the raw truth

&t=350s

The 1st part is his rhythmic Hill Country blues all driving chords and the occasional 3 note fill and then - suddenly at the 15 minute mark he takes ownership of Elmore James' "I believe my time ain't long" and proves that he can dominate Delta Slide style blues just as well as he does the Mississippi Hill country blues.

Do yourself a favor. Put on the headphones relax and listen to all 56 minutes uninterrupted

I'd love you to give this an ear. I've been listening to some malian music this week, and the similarity with blues rhythms.. can't be overstated..

Same trance like fluid feeling, chords revolving around one main musical theme. (there's some john lee hooker vibes in this track too)

I love the groove and the guitar.

The Blues Museum in St Louis starts by displaying Malian instruments and playing recordings of traditional music from that area of West Africa.

How do you know all this stuff? I consider myself a music nerd, but damn JHan

Srsly though, through friendships. Been lucky to know people as crazy about music as I am. Jazzheads, blues addicts, Classical music junkies. My knowledge of West African music is mainly due to one of my close buddies ( a Nigerian)..

My first intro to Malian music though was a CD collection gifted to me in my teens. Gorgeous packaging, booklet - the works. Fell instantly in love with Oumou Sangare ( posted this earlier https://www.democraticunderground.com/10348732)

And it's so easy to source good stuff because of the internet.
