(10,173 posts)Srsly though, through friendships. Been lucky to know people as crazy about music as I am. Jazzheads, blues addicts, Classical music junkies. My knowledge of West African music is mainly due to one of my close buddies ( a Nigerian)..
My first intro to Malian music though was a CD collection gifted to me in my teens. Gorgeous packaging, booklet - the works. Fell instantly in love with Oumou Sangare ( posted this earlier https://www.democraticunderground.com/10348732)
And it's so easy to source good stuff because of the internet.
