It's before Richie switched to Marshall amps, so it sounds very different than their later stuff.
Lord's counterrhytms on the organ are superb.

But, that's strictly a matter of taste.
I liked Blackmore's later tone more and when John L started running a second feed to Marshall's, hoo boy!
I also like Gillan's voice more than Rod Evans'.
But, their stuff from the early days was a little less heavy and even a bit prog. So, I can see why you'd prefer it.

I'm a Mitch Ryder fan and Evans sounds a lot like him on this album. Definitely more prog than heavy
