just how dangerous the storms on the Great Lakes can be. Before that, I'd doubt most Americans outside the region could even imagine.

I adore Gordon Lightfoot. Tremendous storyteller, folksinger and all around good guy.

I've experienced 5 ft. waves on Lake Erie in an 18 ft. boat (not intentionally, for sure!) .... that was scary enough!

Can't imagine 18' waves even from a distance.

The Great Lakes are such a marvel, aren't they?

Winter storms we're crazy. I might be exaggerating. But the storm I remember the volleyball net posts we're submerged by at least 2 feet. At least. So what 10' - 12' surge? I was on top of the dune leading down to the beach and was getting soaked by the spray 3 feet below.
