Rumored to have the temperament of an angry snapper turtle in that era, but his guitar tone in this song is so unmistakably his, and it’s delicious.

I’m a big Jon Lord fan too, and together those two made a sound unlike anything that came before or since.

Both are amazing musicians. I was not aware of Richie Blackmore being so salty but as you said, unmistakable.

While I agree on his tone, he's kind of mailing it in on this version.
I've heard him play much better than this.
Something irritated Gillan in this clip, during the 2nd verse. He quits singing & does an eye roll.
On his temperament: I've got a concert DVD of them where Jon puts his hand down in the wrong spot and momentarily hits a chord a full step high. Richie picks up a water bottle & throws it at him!
