Rufus played a couple times each summer in the city where I grew up, back in the early to mid 70s
Circumstances got us backstage passes to the shows every week so we talked with the band a half-dozen times. The guys in the band were still calling Chaka YM (Yvette Marie) the first couple times.
She was a sweetie! I think she was still 19 the first time we met her.
We heard them do this song even before the single was released. It was fun to already know a song the first time it came on the radio.
BTW: this song was the first time I ever saw someone use a talk box on the guitar.

...she went to catholic schools. A year after we met them, they were nationwide on radio & on Dick Clark.
Yet, there they were the next couple summers at one of the weekly rock shows.
Back in those days, we met a lot of famous musicians & singers.
Our favorite was Blue Oyster Cult. Super guys!
BTW: Stevie Wonder wrote that song. He gave it to Rufus because he liked Chaka's voice.
