When we met them first, she had just changed her stage name.
The guys in the band were calling her YM (her name was Yvette Maris). A year later, everyone just called her Chaka, so it caught on quick.
She was a few years older than me, but I think she was still a teenager.
They played at least once each summer at weekly concerts with which my dad was tangentially connected, so we had backstage passes every week.
She was a sweetie. The band was super nice too.
And, they were very tight, live.
We met them a year before this song was released. Even after this song broke big, they came back to play each summer for 3 more years. (They all lived only about 30 miles away.)
I was so psyched when I heard this on the radio the first time.

Never saw her live but I do remember the first time I saw her, she was on the Dick Cavett Show. My heart raced a bit

She was very cute. She probably still is. Had a billion dollar smile. Her whole face lit up when she smiled.
