We celebrated my recent birthday by having lunch with an old friend, and then hunting for ospreys. Finding some black crowned night herons was a bonus.

(1,109 posts)We missed that birthday lunch with you and your old friend
So please accept these happy birthday wishes I just penned
Your approach to and landing osprey are shockingly high voltage
Why I'd even order several prints if I could only afford the postage
Your capture of both black crowned night herons calls for extra cake
And perhaps even two scoops of that ice cream in a frothy milk shake
Now here's a bonus happy birthday wish coming your way, Grumpy Old Guy

(12,324 posts)A Night Heron is/was a daily visitor for handouts. He would come in and hop on the counter, take his handout and go on about the rest of his business.
That was about 10 years ago. I don't know if this still happens.

(3,155 posts)Back in my pier fishing days it wasn't uncommon to have a night heron hang out on the pier with us, looking for a handout.

(31,909 posts)Birds arent easy to capture in a clear photo (at least in my experience) and you did a wonderful job.
Like the Voltage sign in the one, as if the bird is saying, I dont need no stinkin voltage warnings!
And, BTW, Happy Birthday!

(3,155 posts)I enjoy bird photography for the challenge. It isn't easy to capture a good image of a bird in flight. Unfortunately, this is one type of photography where the gear can get quite expensive.
