Why we are photographers . . .
The sky background was light, so the horizon shows nicely.

Darker sky tonight. It was later, so no horizon except for a tree.
1000mm effective focal length.

Enjoy!

(156,298 posts)I rather like the tree in this photo. The effect seems to make the moon seem even larger than it is.
Nicely done!
Thanks for sharing your work.

(24,120 posts)The colors are about as realistic as I could manage and still darken the shadows a bit.
Indeed, on the horizon, there is a longer air path to scatter the blue light, and the moon is redder.
The tree was nice. You're welcome.
My pleasure to share.

(24,120 posts)and the still air was PERFECT for flower photos, less the waving in the breeze.
Will process and share some later.

(24,120 posts)There tends to be some haze on the horizon and since I am shooting across a "ravine" (I live on a ridge) there is usually a lot of turbulence. Stars often seem to dance around like, well, UFO's.
Very good fortune.

(4,064 posts)It was partly cloudy here in Central Texas so I never got a very good look. Thank you for sharing those!

(24,120 posts)I am a bit underpowered compared to NASA and some pro's with longer lenses ( I have been using a Coolpix point and shoot for years) and I usually defer to them for space photos, or even Firefall in Yosemite (which gets way too crowded at the time).
I was hoping to see lots of moon photos on DU. I am happy to be the duty photographer. Especially for people who got clouds, bummer.
