I was looking for this photo to show a friend, and then I wanted to post it! It was a lucky shot, through a chain-link fence. She was really moving right along.
Hope you enjoy!

(61,695 posts)She looks awesome! Great shot.
Girls who participate in sports have much better odds in accomplishing so much, like finishing high school, better self-esteem, less likely to engage in sexual exploits, etc.

(149,611 posts)We sometimes forget that they're kids and don't play with the same ferocity that the grown-ups have.
She has super self-esteem and is strong in school as well as in sports.

But it's that 'determination!'
Shining through 'that'll last the ages!'
And help her steal our hearts and '3rd base!'

(10,136 posts)Stealing -- so baseball, not softball?
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,611 posts)Actually, I'm not sure about which kind of baseball she was playing then.
Do they not steal bases in softball? Because the kids were always encouraged to steal if they could do so safely.

(10,136 posts)After looking it up, it seems allowed depending on the age of the players, fast vs slow pitch, and other restrictions.

(149,611 posts)It was truly a miracle capture, with her speed and determination making it hard to focus while concentrating on getting a good photo!

(7,808 posts)In the foreground, and in focus, is our feisty runner concentrating on something. In the background, behind her, is the ball itself, and also behind her is a player of the opposing team who seems to have forgotten what he's doing. He is certainly not rushing to catch the ball and fire it off to third. Unless, ... maybe that's not the baseball behind her, but an abandoned soccer ball lying at the base of the fence? In which case, they ought to police their grounds better.
Whatever the situation was, this photo captures all the elements of drama that we hope for in a game of skill.

(149,611 posts)I like it!
The kids at this age often seemed to forget what they were supposed to be doing. It's all so very new.
I was thrilled to get this photo, in focus and everything, for posterity!
